Greg

He lost his career, his licence and nearly everything else. Then he found a mat.

Greg is a 31-year-old jiu-jitsu black belt from Santa Cruz, a former professional surfer whose career and life fell apart in his mid-twenties. He sleeps twelve hours a night, turns up late to everything, and submits black belts who have trained twice as long as he has. He can't drive any more. His 71-year-old mother drives him to every fight. He says, without irony, that jiu-jitsu saved his life.
